Celebrating 60 Years of Distance Learning
2009/10 marks the 60th anniversary of UBC’s decision to offer credit courses at a distance. This year long celebration will be marked by several events that aim to increase awareness of distance learning within the communities that the university is a part of and strengthen the partnerships that help create a quality learning environment for distance learning. Visit the Distance Learning at UBC website for more details.
OLT supports Faculties that offer courses and programs to students who prefer alternative (technology-enabled) learning modes, seek scheduling flexibility and/or are unable to come to campus. These offerings bridge physical and administrative distances, enabling students to balance their educational, professional and personal lives. Our instructional design, project management and distance education expertise strengthens UBC’s ability to leverage scarce resources to the benefit of on-campus and off-campus learners. Through these efforts, OLT and its partners help to extend UBC’s campus throughout the province and world, positioning the University as a leader in innovative educational practice in the global community. All of our courses carry full credit toward degree programs. Click here to see what students have to say about their distance education courses.
